Black leather sneakers – four ways to wear

This post shows four ways to wear a pair of minimal black leather sneakers. When I first got serious about fashion and how to dress I wasn’t a huge fan of wearing black. Black shoes reminded me of what I used to wear – back in school or for work. It was around the time that […]

My ‘Just for when’ rule for my capsule wardrobe

instead of keeping possessions ‘on the hook’, stringing them along, promising to yourself that one day I will wear/use this, think about eventualities.

Pinterest: the good and the bad…from a minimalist POV.

Please note: This is an imported post from an old blog and as such may not cover the same themes or reach the same quality criteria as the rest of minimaldrobe.com. Thanks! I’ve been on Pinterest more or less since the beginning. I was initially very reluctant to get into contemporary social networking; I used […]

A minimalist man’s wardrobe part 1: A warning about relying on others’ advice.

if you’re reading this, scouring the web for advice about what makes a capsule wardrobe…I’ll offer it, in my next post. But this post acts as a warning: a “definitive” guide to a capsule wardrobe is always an example. Do not leap on a (fast) fashion website and place a $500 order because I say you “need” this, this, or this. I personally, of course, think that you should have confidence in my opinion, on men’s fashion in particular; you can take advantage of the knowledge and experience I have had, if you want. But as ever, these kinds of posts are a helpful hand, nothing more. And that’s true whether the author is paid or not; it’s up to you.

Key to the contemporary minimalist enterprise is a confidence in your own evaluation of what is “important”; this means that the definition of a minimalist constantly shifts, that it’s hard to point to a hard truth behind the idea of “minimalism” today (as opposed to its application in architecture, visual art, music etc.), because it is an extension of our deep-seated service to individualism and self-reinforcement.
